oh ja, summer

May 13th, 2010

hello
yesterday i saw a male youth wearing a coat, shorts and flip-flops
i should be congratulated and respected for everyday i pass without murdering someone
i keep meaning to mention, that i live practically next door to a cryogenic laboratory

curiously, i have started to find much pleasure in new musics of recent; tho the most notable items have actually been archival efforts.
there seems to be growing trend for the unearthing and displaying of gems
to this end, i can thoroughly recommend the following consumables:

jean-pierre massiera’s le maledictus sound – l’etrange monsieur whinster
totally fucked 70s french mix of pop prog and psyche-soundfuckery. one of the highlights of the NWW list (yes, i only discovered what the fuss about “the NWW list” was recently). the kind of thing you need to hear really. but i guarantee you won’t be disappointed

tristam cary – its time for tristam cary
great collection of early electronics/tapes tracks from a forgotten innovator.
heres someone who knows what they’re talking about:

excavated shellac: strings
fantabulous comp of ancient recordings on a great label. actually all these three albums are on interesting labels. i have a tape somewhere of old old turkish recordings and, like this lovely record, not only are they beautiful to listen to, but they also encourage you to engage with ideas about recording and sound. as well as reminding you of a different time when the recording of music wasn’t the apparent prime purpose for a musician.

these are all beautifully presented and show the efforts of people who give a shit. real labours of love.

should also mention gary smith’s “supertexture” cd, available hier:
http://www.sijis.com/sijis_index.cfm?mainspace=release&catalogid=siji14
the second cd (of remixes/interpretations/collabs/constructions/somethings) was a fucking effort to get thru, frankly, but the first cd of mr smith playing alone is beautiful and terrifying at the same time. the guitar is NOT dead.

consumption round-up done.
